SHE Media offers a pretty robust injection tool that allows us to place ads on your site for you (within reason). It's especially useful for publishers who aren't sure about where ads should go, ads that you want in-content (but don't want to manually code plugins or add in another plugin).
How does it work?
You place our header code on your site (either manually or if you're on Wordpress, through our Infuse plugin) and we can create an injection rule!
Websites are essentially a bunch of boxes that your content and other elements sit in. We use the theme's names for those boxes to give our code instructions on where to place ads. Where it does, what type of ad, what style rules to apply, and even if there are specific pages you don't want it to run on.
Can every site use it?
It depends on your theme and your site's layout. If you use a Drag and Drop theme and have created a lot very different page templates, this can make it difficult to make rules that apply to every page.
Also: if your theme has absolute values set (meaning it sets items in say, your sidebar, in precise places) it won't let us insert items between sections.
Some themes use very generic naming conventions, and this makes it very difficult as well.
Our teams will always give it a try and let you know if we run into any limitations.
How specific can you get?
For most of our injections, we can look at adding things before/after an element - or in the case of our in-content ads, we look for your content well and inject based on the settings of our rule. Every so many pixels or words.
While it is possible to get more granular to keep ads from breaking up a list or whatnot, very specific injections like this can take more time to get right.
