As you learn more about advertising, you'll hear the terms programmatic and direct ads thrown around, as different types of revenue. Through our network, they'll both appear on your site seamlessly - on the backend, they get to your screen a little differently.
Programmatic Ads are likely what you think of when you think of internet ads - ads delivered from an ad provider that is somewhat tailored to the person viewing them, whether that's based on cookies or contextual data. We work with a wide variety of programmatic providers that keep us supplied with a variety of quality ads that can be targeted and tailored to your audience. These ads can include from ad campaigns placed by companies through the providers, to cookie based advertising (if you've ever had an item you looked at follow you around the internet, this is part of it).
Direct Ads are ads that SHE Media's sales team has set up. Our team reaches out to major brands who are looking for primarily female audiences, and those ads run across our entire network for campaigns.
What can I control?
SHE Media partners have access to a list of opt-outs that we use for placing direct campaigns. Everything from alcohol to political ads. And we do our best to honor those when trafficking a direct ad campaign.
But what about programmatic?
Programmatic is setup on the provider side. Companies and agencies place ads through them, and they're responsible for providing the creative and tagging it. We've set quality threshold to block things that are obviously not family friendly as well as overtly spammy, and from there, the ads get divided up by their vertical to help funnel them out to your readers.
Because of the volume of programmatic ads used across our network, we've partnered with AdLightning to help us block ads that don't meet quality standards.
How do I report or opt-out for programmatic ads?
If you have a bad ad on your site, we want you to take a screenshot and forward it to the support team at support@shemedia.com and let us know what time you saw it and where you're located. (Two things that help AdLightning find those ads quickly)
We also have a Report an Ad feature that we can enable on your site - if you are concerned that there might be some ads that your audience might find objectionable. But reach out to the Support team, and we'll do our best to help resolve your issue.
