Thanks to Google's latest HCU (Helpful Content Update), you're likely hearing a lot about ad density and needing to make sure your ad density isn't above 30%.
What is Ad Density?
Ad density is the % of either your viewport or page's length that is taken up by ads. Your viewport is your screen size. So the viewport calculation is what shows on the screen at any given moment.
So the calculation takes the full length of your screen or page and then takes the height of the ads and divides it by that length.
How to check your Ad Density?
There are browser extensions that are available - but the SHE support team already has those installed, so we can take a look at your site for you. We'll look at posts of different lengths to see what it reports and give you the average.
Should I be worried?
Our standard ad layout shouldn't surpass the 28-30% mark on desktop. We do go to great lengths to put enough space between your in-content ads, and ads in the sidebar to break it up. But we'll be happy to help you adjust your layout if it's too high for your liking.
Working with our support team is your best bet - just reach out to support@shemedia.zendesk.com and we'll be able to work with you on this.
